The phrase or label porn addiction is “sexual addiction”. Sex addiction portrays an individual having an unusual interest with sex or an obsession or compulsion with sex. Sex addiction can be experienced as unrelenting fantasizing about sex that takes over and controls a person’s behaviors (and thinking), making it difficult to work or manage a healthy intimate relationship.
Despite the high possibility that these behaviors may eventually carry serious or harmful consequences, sex addicts often indulge in an assortment of high-risk, acting-out behaviors including affairs.
Note that the term ‘addict’ is only a label used to describe a type of thinking and behavior and not who a person is.
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF SEXUAL ADDICTION?
Many sex addicts often find themselves having uncontrollable thoughts about sex and excessively engaging in sexual behaviors. These behaviors lack personal satisfaction leaving a person feeling empty inside.
Persons struggling with sex addiction will usually experience the desire to fill this emptiness. However these sexual activities develop little or no real intimacy or attachment to their sex partners.
As a result, sex addicts often are inundated by feelings of guilt, shame and experience a lack of true self-esteem. These feelings are part of “The Addiction Cycle”.
This cycle is most often followed by destruction in relationships, divided families and problems at work.
